Favorite Hats

As I was cleaning out some areas of my storage closet, I found some favorite hats.  One was Mary's, one was Sarah's, and one was my own,

Mitzi's shawl

Mitzi had finished a shawl that she wore today.  I love it!  I especially love the fact that it uses self-striping yarn or variegated yarn with a solid black yarn!

The photos do not do it justice!  Here is the name of the pattern:

I have filed the pattern in the kitchen under shawls.

Kristin's shawl

Kristina was working on a a wonderful shawl today at knitting.  The technique that made it very special is that the cable on the shawl looks the same from both sides.  This is accomplished by using k1,p1,k1, p1, k1 for the traveling part.  I am not sure that that is exactly right.....I will need to ask again.  But it is ribbed.

The pattern that she is using is in Icelandic.....but it is lovely!

Cokey's cowl

Cokey wore a cowl that she had finished for a niece last week.  This cowl works well because the yarn is so soft and pliable and hangs nicely:

Cokey knit it on size 8 needles.  It is a DK weight yarn that she had bought at Joyce's.  We counted the stitches and she cast on 100 stitches and then knit 10 rows, then rib for 10 rows and then Purl for 10 rows and then seed stitch for 10 rows.  Excellent way to use a variegated yarn!

Herbarium

Dar finished another wonderful shawl:  Herbarium

It is made of fingering yarn on size 5/6 needles.  The pattern suggests Madelinetosh Light or Plucky Knitter Primo Fingering or Plucky Knitter Single or Malabrigo Mechita.  It takes 800 yards.  I looked at other color ways on Ravelry and none were prettier than Dar's colors....but I did like the black and grey and the red and beige and the Navy and bright blue.  Plucky knitter had a color that I liked very well on sale on their site.  It was Nifty and it contained 310 yards in each skein.  When I went back to buy this beautiful shade of red, it was gone.

Silverleaf

I am cleaning up my computer tonight.  I found a project that I had liked and not bought at Black Mountain last year.  It is called Silverleaf.  I don't think that I downloaded the pattern.  I was a bit overwhelmed when we returned from SAFF.

Loop by Dar

I like the shawl that Dar made a lot.  I like the idea of dressing up a plain yarn with a variegated yarn....making both more valuable.  The pattern is Loop by Casapinka.

Drachenfels

I fell in love with a shawl when Dar and I visited the Nest in Bridgeport, WV.  The pattern is Drachenfels.  The store model was done in Dark blue, purple/red, and lavender.  It was knitted in Madelinetosh Merino light.  Diana had the dark blue and the red/purple color....or at least something similar.  But she did not have the lavendar in stock.  And because Madelinetosh is hand dyed you can not always find exactly the same color way again.  I am knitting the shawl on size 6 needles.

Here is what Webs says about this yarn:

Madelinetosh is known for their colorways and their yarns are some of the most gorgeous knitting and crochet yarns available. Using all natural fibers that are ethically sourced from mills around the world, Madelinetosh yarns are hand-dyed in Texas with low impact organic compound dyes, that are good for you and the Earth!

Because Diana did not have the lavendar, I ended up buying a light pink.  However, on my way to Boston I found a beautiful lavender skein at the Little Owl's Knit shop in Harrisburg.  It is Manos Del Uruguay Fino

I am binding off in September 2018.  It calls for an i-cord bind off.  I first did the bind off using the lavender yarn and a larger needle than a six.  I am redoing the bind off using the dark purple and the number six needle.  I like this look better.  I used the following link to learn the i-cord bind off:

I finally finished the shawl in November 2018.  It looks so much like the one that I pictured above that I am not going to add the photo of me wearing my version that Caroline posted on facebook.
